Sanxingdui Pit 3 to launch excavation documentaries

The world's largest bronze mask unearthed from pit 3 of the Sanxingdui siteswowed the national television audience at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala in the Year of the Tiger. In fact, as many as 1,321 relatively intact artefacts were unearthed from Pit 3 of the Sanxingdui, including a number of national treasures.Xu Feihong, a lecturer at the School of Cultural Heritage and Information Management of Shanghai University and the person in charge of the excavation site of Pit 3,said that these exquisite artefacts will be presented to the public in advance in the book "A Chronology of the Excavation of Ritual Pit No. 3 at the Ruins of Sanxingdui" in July this year.
In October 2020, the excavation of six sacrificial pits at Sanxingdui was officially launched. In November, Li Mingbin, Distinguished Professor at Shanghai University and Director of the Shanghai University Museum, led an excavation team to Sanxingdui, mainly in charge ofPit 3. In nearly a year's time, important artefacts such as the bronze statue, the 'strange artefacts', the round-mouthed square dome and the large bronze mask that appeared at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala have been unearthed.
