In Shanghai! New Archaeological Discoveries at Sanxingdui Site Selected for Major Field Archaeological Discovery Awards

On 15 December, the Fifth World Archaeology Forum - Shanghai was held at Shanghai University, where 9 Major Field Archaeological Discoveries and 10 Important Archaeological Research Achievements were presented, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award. Sichuan's Sanxingdui archaeological discovery project - "A Wide Range of Ritual Remains - Witnesses to the Glory of Ancient Shu and the Integration of Chinese Civilization in Diversity" was selected for the Major Field Archaeological Discovery Awards.
So far, Sanxingdui 6 sacrificial pits have been unearthed more than 17,000 pieces of numbered cultural relics, of which 4,800 pieces of relatively complete cultural relic; sacrificial pits age is basically determined, 8 sacrificial pits of comparable age, roughly in the late Shang Dynasty to the formation of the early Western Zhou Dynasty.
Anke Hein, Professor of Chinese Archaeology at the University of Oxford, said, "The archaeological concepts and methods of Sanxingdui are worthy of reference for the whole world." Anke visited Sanxingdui in Sichuan many years ago, and she exclaimed, "The huge size of the Sanxingdui bronzes, the high level of technology, and the artistic style that is so different from the bronzes of the Central Plains are so shocking."
